Aliaksandra Sasnovich beats Sloane Stephens to take Fed Cup to deciding doubles

Aliaksandra Sasnovich beat US Open champion Sloane Stephens 4-6, 6-1, 8-6 Sunday to create Belarus level with the United States at 2-2 and force a determining doubles in the Fed Cup final.CoCo Vandeweghe and Shelby Rogers play.


 Aryna Sabalenka and Sasnovich in the ultimate match. Vandeweghe earlier beat Sabalenka 7-6 (5), 6-1 to offer the US a 2-1 lead. Vandeweghe has won all seven Fed Cup matches she's played this year six singles and one doubles.Stephens has yet to win any one of her six matches since winning the US Open in September. She lost both singles matches in Minsk, including to Sabalenka on Saturday.Stephens served for the match at 5-3 in the next set, but was struggling to clinch the title for the United States. It took Sasnovich two attempts, at 6-5 and 7-6 in the next set, to serve out the match.Sabalenka had a chance to take an earlier lead against Vandeweghe when leading 5-4 but didn't make the most of a collection point on Vandeweghe's serve in the 10th game.Sabalenka led 4-1 in the tiebreaker but surrendered her result in an even more measured Vandeweghe, who clinched the initial set once the Belarussian blasted a forehand wide while opting for a winner.
